8 am bike ride with triathlon team.  Got dropped after the water stop at a little more than the halfway point.  Didn't really know the route (no maps or cue sheets were handed out) and was way out in the country. Finally caught up with a guy who had also gotten dropped, and we weren't sure what turns the group took at several intersections, so we guessed, and were able to get back on track on a route back to where we started, but it probably wasn't the same route the group took since we didn't see any of them again until we got back, and a few of them were still at the start, getting ready to leave.  I felt good because the two of us were resourceful enough to find our way back and still get in a decent ride; felt a little embarrassed because I'm not that fast yet and haven't had the time to build up cycling speed; only a little annoyed that the group left us but hey, we're all adults and responsible for ourselves.

It would be nice to have the route mapped out if there are differences in speed, or groups of people with different speed with at least one leader in the group who knows the route. I wouldn't stop going, just make sure you are ready for a really good workout when you go, and try to hang on a little longer each time. I bet this group will help you get speedy :)
