6 am - 10.5 with downhills and into Johnson park, then cut through with the new paved trail to Shelton.  Nice, cool morning.  Felt fairly strong and did some pickups in the middle of the run.

It was awesome to meet my fellow FRB bloggers at the blog party - thanks Michelle, Tarzan, Sunnyrun, CanadianFlash for your advice and support!  Here it is Monday already, and I'm just getting a chance to write the race report.  I had to leave soon after the race finish to check out of the hotel and head back to LV to turn in the rental car.  I was also really cold and could not find my car, but that's another story...

Yes!  I qualified for Boston - my BQ was 4:00:59, and I finished SGM in 3:49:19! Without injury - just sore quads. Thank you Sasha for the excellent training plan - it really DOES work!  Thanks, Michelle, for your encouragement and feedback along the way!  Congratulations on your excellent finish!

I'll write more detail later. Already sent in the application for Boston.

6 pm - about 10 miles on the triathlon bike - the Big House loop in Germantown until dark.  Legs feel a bit tired, so I had to use a moderate pace.

6:45 am - 4 miles.  Left hamstring and right IT band feel a little bit tight.  Stretched afterward and by the time I got to work, they felt better.

10:30 am - 7.8 mile loop.  Left hamstring and right IT band still a little tight.  It got hot, and by the end of the run, I felt a little dehydrated and tired.

10:00 am - 9 miles with downhills.  Right IT band is still tight and back of right knee also hurt after the run.  Stretched and Iced the right knee area after the run.  Piriformis muscle also hurts on the right.  Maybe I'm running too long too soon.  Should I just stick to shorter runs for a week or so, maybe 5 to 7 miles each?

12:44 pm - new 13+ mile route near my friend's house in Cordova that has some very nice hills.  There aren't that many good hills in Collierville, and I really enjoyed this run!  Weather was perfect 65 and sunny.

6:30 pm - about 10 miles on the bike trainer inside - it is getting dark earlier!  Pretty intense spin workout to music.  Then ran about a mile before getting to an area where there were no streetlights.  Turned around at that point because I could not see well enough to continue.  The neighborhood was ok, just too dark to see and did not want to trip on something.  On the way back, right IT band started to hurt again, so I stretched well afterward.  Probably 1+ miles running.

8:30 am - the Mid-South Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 5K.  Another PR. Several departments at work joined to form a team that walked and ran to honor two co-workers with breast cancer.  The two we honor are relatively young women who we all work with closely every day. One is 45 and the other is in her mid-thirties.  Our team is the Pink Lizards - Pink symbolic of the Race for the Cure color and Lizard, the childhood nickname of one of the co-workers who is fighting cancer.

I also run to honor my Mom, who was diagnosed with breast cancer this summer and was fortunate that it was found early enough so that her treatment is not as severe as my other friends' treatments.  My list of women who I run in honor or in memory of is now growing every year.  I wear the list with my race number when I run.

I run to honor -

Mom

Jeanne

Lisa

Teresa

I run in memory of -

Grandma Adelaide Tallman

Aunt Dorothy Tallman

All are fighting or have fought breast cancer.  It not only affects the person who has cancer but also their entire families and network of friends.  Many important gains have been made in diagnosis and treatment which would never have occurred had it not been for fundraising and awareness efforts.  More work is yet to be done to find a cure.

The day ends with this quote that my friend and co-worker Yolanda wrote and that graces the back of our team shirts -

"Lizards are said to be a symbol of letting go, agility, conservation, and promotes dreaming."

"The Pink Lizards are walking and running for the conservation of the dream of finding a cure for breast cancer and letting go of the fear of this disease for future generations."

12:30 pm - about 11 miles.  I haven't mapped out this route online yet, but it is about 11.  Beautiful day.  Right IT band still a little tight and front of left knee started to hurt a bit toward the end.  Good run overall.

11:45 am - ran at lunchtime - did a fast, tempo run and was conservative with the distance since I had a 1:00 meeting to attend.  Mapped it later and found it was only 5 miles.

6:20 pm - about 8 to 10 miles on the road bike. It was pretty cold - 46 degrees and dark.  Went with my friend who wanted to try out his new road bike, which he found needs several adjustments.
